How the photo location and setting of a photo shoot can enhance storytelling and branding

For the photo shoot with Natascha Schlienz we had a very exciting location: AS Rent in Metzingen. Natascha helps her German clients to get their driving licence back after a driving ban. She is basically a coach for these people and she does her coaching remotely. So to illustrate her business, we needed a special and distinctive setting. In Metzingen we have the Motorworld and there we found AS Rent – they rent out special cars for special occasions: Stylish vintage cars, fancy sports cars, and they also have an impressive blue Rolls Royce on their premises.

It was the perfect setting. The shiny, beautiful cars looked amazing in the flashlight and so did Natascha. Not only did we get some lovely storytelling pictures, but we also had an amazing and very special experience with AS Rent. It was an absolute pleasure to have these beautiful cars to ourselves for an hour.
As a corporate photographer, I always look at the context of the person being photographed. Often we shoot in the office building, shop or factory where the business operates. But a lot of businesses are run from home these days. For businesses that don’t have a physical shop, it’s even more important to have great images because the connection with potential customers is often made online via social media or the website. As a photographer, I look at the business and think: Where would be a great location to tell the story of this business? What setting would complement the story? Are there accessories and items that would enhance the storytelling?

Planning and Branding
My research and planning before each shoot is crucial to the success and outcome of a shoot. Sometimes very simple, clean backdrops are beneficial, sometimes a mix, and for some a specific context or setting in a busy environment is beneficial. Every business is different and so is every photo shoot. Especially when it comes to personal branding, where there is a certain focus on the person behind the business and their personality.
For Natascha we did some portraits at my local studio in Metzingen and some candid shots with her laptop in front of clean backdrops. And then we moved on to the premises of AS Rent for some car shots. In the video you can see some of the behind the scenes as well as some of the pictures taken at AS Rent. Für das Fotoshooting mit Natascha Schlienz hatten wir eine sehr spannende Location: AS Rent in Metzingen. Natascha ist MPU-Expertin und hilft ihren deutschen Kunden, ihren Führerschein nach einem Fahrverbot wiederzubekommen. Sie ist quasi ein Coach für diese Leute und sie macht ihr Coaching remote, also von zu Hause aus. Um ihr spezielles Business zu veranschaulichen, brauchten wir also ein entsprechend spezielles und unverwechselbares Setting. In Metzingen haben wir die Motorworld und dort haben wir AS Rent gefunden – sie vermieten besondere Autos für besondere Anlässe: Stilvolle Oldtimer, ausgefallene Sportwagen, … Sie hatten sogar einen beeindruckenden blauen Rolls Royce in ihren großen Räumlichkeiten.

Das war der perfekte Rahmen. Die glänzenden, schönen Autos sahen im Blitzlicht super aus und Natascha auch. Wir haben nicht nur schöne Bilder mit Storytelling bekommen, sondern hatten auch ein unvergessliches Erlebnis mit AS Rent. Es war für uns beide eine riesen Freude, diese schönen Autos eine Stunde lang für uns zu haben.
Als Business-Fotografin schaue ich immer auf den Kontext der Person, die fotografiert wird. Oft fotografieren wir in dem Büro, dem Laden oder der Fabrik, wo das Unternehmen arbeitet. Aber viele Unternehmen werden heutzutage von zu Hause aus betrieben. Für Unternehmen, die kein physisches Ladengeschäft haben, ist es sogar noch wichtiger, gute Bilder zu haben, weil die Verbindung zu potenziellen Kunden oft online über soziale Medien oder die Website hergestellt wird. Als Fotografin schaue ich mir das Unternehmen an und überlege: Wo wäre ein guter Ort, um die Geschichte dieses Unternehmens zu erzählen? Welche Kulisse würde die Geschichte ergänzen? Gibt es Accessoires und Gegenstände, die zum Storytelling beitragen würden?

Planung und Branding
Meine Recherche und Planung vor jedem Shooting sind entscheidend für den Erfolg und das Ergebnis eines Shootings. Manchmal sind sehr einfache, cleane Hintergründe vorteilhaft, für manche ist ein bestimmter Kontext oder eine bestimmte Umgebung in einem geschäftigen Umfeld von Vorteil und manchmal macht`s die Mischung. Jedes Unternehmen ist anders, und so ist auch jedes Fotoshooting anders. Vor allem, wenn es um Personal Branding geht, bei dem die Person hinter dem Unternehmen und ihre Persönlichkeit im Mittelpunkt stehen.
Für Natascha haben wir einige Porträts in meinem Studio in Metzingen gemacht und einige Schnappschüsse mit ihrem Laptop vor einfachen Hintergründen. Dann ging es weiter auf das Gelände von AS Rent für ein paar Aufnahmen mit Autos. In dem Video zeige ich dir einen Blick hinter die Kulissen und einige der Bilder, die bei AS Rent entstanden sind.
